…Okay, so since my last Dadko doodle is getting enough notes, I thought I’d actually come out and address it: I’ve had an OC!babygirl named Lei since like… 2008/2009. She is def a Zutara kid and she isdef a subject of my doodles more often than I think people realize.
I’ve had this horrific, monstrous non-canon/fanon headcanon for the longest time now - it makes me sort of feel validated to know that Zuko has a daughter, but at the same time I’m like… Bawww, she’s not a ZK kid and her name is def not Lei, so my conflicts as a rational person and an artist aren’t really leveled yet.
It makes me kind of self-conscious, though. That if I drew Lei with Zuko, or posted pictures of Zuko with Lei and not this unnamed actual, canon!daughter, it really wouldn’t be half as popular as if it were an actual canon depiction. It’s a little disheartening, y’know?
I think though, regardless, people should be able to enjoy something despite what context the artist drew it in. I’m mainly putting this photoset here so everyone can see that eh… ‘Dadko’ has kind of been a thing of mine for a while, and that I really hope it’s not much of a deterrent considering how awfully fanon it is, compared to every other art cropping up in the fandom these days.
